Professor Kate Galloway is a property lawyer and Strategic Professor, Law and Social Justice. She studied law and economics at the University of Queensland, and holds a master of laws by research from QUT and a PhD from the University of Melbourne. Admitted to practice in Queensland and in the High Court of Australia, she brings to her academic practice a background as a solicitor in both private practice and a land council, as well as longstanding governance experience in the community legal sector. She is committed to providing a transformative educational experience for students aimed at graduating ethical and highly-skilled professionals capable of meeting the challenges facing contemporary society and the environment.
Professor Galloway is an award-winning law teacher, recognised with a 2009 ALTC citation for leadership in legal education. She is a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and is an expert in legal education who is widely published in the field. She established the Law Education Associate Deans Network and for six years until 2023 served as editor-in-chief of the Legal Education Review, continuing to serve on its editorial committee.
In addition to legal education, Professor Galloway is an expert in the field of property law with a focus on land rights, and is a sought-after commentator in this area. She has also recently published on questions of technology and land title reflecting her interest in the intersection of technology, law and society.
Before joining the Thomas More Law School, Professor Galloway has taught law in five law schools in three states, and has held various educational leadership roles in three Australian law schools. A leader in the discipline of law, Professor Galloway currently serves as the chair of the Australasian Law Academics Association. She serves on the editorial committees of Legal Ethics and the Alternative Law Journal and is a member of the advisory board of Law Technology and Humans.
