Further steps for future teachers
Teaching requirements
When you apply to study an initial teacher education course, you need to demonstrate you have the right skills and qualities to be an effective teacher, such as: communication, empathy, ethics and professionalism. These are government entry requirements that are in addition to your course application.
This process varies by state and may include taking an online assessment, submitting a personal statement or answering a questionnaire. To learn more, visit teaching requirements.
Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education Students
Before you complete your teaching degree, you’ll need to sit the Australian Government’s Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education Students (LANTITE).
It’s important you do well in this test if you want to launch your teaching career in Qld, NSW, ACT or Vic. The LANTITE is made up of two parts, each made up of multiple choice and written answers. They can be taken together or separately.
