Anne Castles is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia and has served on the Editorial Boards of several journals, including Scientific Studies of Reading, and the Journal of Experimental Child Psychology. She served as President of Learning Difficulties Australia from 2017-18.
Professor Castles’ research focuses on learning to read and reading disorders. She has a particular interest in variability within the reading-impaired population, and in the causes of different types of reading disorders, including genetic, cognitive, and language factors. She is committed to the translation of her research into practice, and has developed several theoretically driven reading and spelling assessments.
