Dr Signy Wegener's research investigates how children learn to read and spell words. Her particular interests include the incremental process of learning new written words, and factors that promote learning, such as oral vocabulary and the exposure conditions at the point of reading.

Signy earned her PhD in Cognitive Science from Macquarie University in 2020 before taking up a position as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow. Her work has been published in a range of high-quality education and experimental psychology journals, including Scientific Studies of Reading; Reading Research Quarterly; Developmental Science; Psychonomic Bulletin & Review; Nature Reviews Psychology; and Journal of Experimental Psychology: Learning, Memory and Cognition. She received the Learning Difficulties Australia/Australian Journal of Learning Difficulties Early Career Researcher Award in 2022. An active peer reviewer for academic journals, Dr Signy also enjoys translating her research for education professionals in outlets such as The Conversation, Teacher, and Frontiers for Young Minds.
