We encourage our pre-service teachers to participate in professional experience programs based in rural and remote locations, including overseas opportunities. This offers students exposure to the experience of teaching in diverse settings - often those with comparatively different cultural, educational and linguistic characteristics.

Immerse yourself in the culture and life of Rome
Semester in Rome program
Eligible undergraduate pre-service teachers can travel to Rome as part of the ACU Semester in Rome. Students studying the ACUSiR complete one unit at a time in intensive study block mode while at the same time immersing themselves in Italian life and culture.
Teach and learn in Vanuatu
Travel to Vanuatu as part of your professional experience placement. You'll spend two weeks teaching and working at Arep School in the province of Torba; an area with low economic development and limited infrastructure.
Develop curriculum in Solomon Islands
Engage fully in local life as you take part in a challenging four weeks of teaching, working with limited resources in a very different cultural environment. You'll learn about culture, life, communication and education in the Solomon Islands.
Community engagement in Kiribati
Be fully immersed in local culture on a community engagement experience in Kiribati. You'll form relationships with local students, teachers and other community members and take part in a range of cultural and professional activities.
