Our multicultural societies are home to a vibrant mix of religious beliefs and experiences. Studies of religion is an exploration of this diversity and its implications for contemporary society. You’ll explore the three Abrahamic religions (Christianity, Judaism and Islam), world religions originating in South and East Asia (Buddhism and Hinduism), Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander spiritualities, as well other spiritual and religious texts and traditions. You’ll develop your critical awareness of the historical and contemporary aspects of each religion, as well as the need for interfaith relations and dialogue.
The Fethullah Gülen Chair in the Study of Islam and Muslim-Catholic Relations aims to provide academic leadership in research, teaching and community engagement in relation to the study of Islam. Founded with recognition of the plurality of Islam itself, the Chair will conduct research, teach academic programs, and work towards promoting greater mutual understanding between Muslims and Catholics both in Australia and throughout the Asia-Pacific region. The Chair is a partnership with the Australian Intercultural Society, a non-government organisation aimed at promoting greater dialogue between Australia’s various faith communities.
