Bachelor of Occupational Therapy – Ballarat Campus
Occupational therapists play an important role in the lives of individuals and communities, enabling participation in occupations of self-care, productivity and leisure. To do this, occupational therapists need to know how humans function and to possess the skills to practise competently and safely. You will learn how to analyse and assess occupational performance, apply and evaluate interventions to enable occupational performance, and collaborate and communicate effectively with clients and their families and colleagues.
Students will be able to commence a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy at ACU Ballarat from Semester 1 2024. Applications will open in August 2023.
The course is also available at our Brisbane, North Sydney and Melbourne campuses.
Fully accredited
Our Bachelor of Occupational Therapy has been developed to ensure new graduates will meet the competency standards of the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT) and Occupational Therapy Council (OTC). ACU is adhering to accreditation requirements of WFOT and OTC in the implementation of the program. Full accreditation has been granted in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. Graduates will be eligible for registration as practising occupational therapists with the Allied Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and for membership of Occupational Therapy Australia (OTA). Please refer to the Registration Standards for Occupational Therapy on the AHPRA website.

Occupational therapists are currently in high demand for a range of practice areas including mental health, disability, aged care and paediatrics, which means you will graduate with great job prospects.
ACU’s School of Allied Health has a growing research profile and offers a competitive honours program for students who excel in their first two years of study. It prepares graduates for a PhD and further studies, or to work as a researching clinician. ACU has long-standing partnerships in key local health and disability services, and an excellent reputation for high-quality graduates, so the introduction of occupational therapy study at the Ballarat Campus has strong local support.
Ethical practice
Our program is embedded with co-designed learning outcomes related to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives so that you’ll graduate as a culturally safe healthcare practitioner. In line with ACU’s mission, the program aims to produce graduates who are ethical and committed to work towards social justice, to recognise and address disadvantage, and to engage with diverse and vulnerable communities to achieve occupational outcomes that support wellbeing and the common good.
