ACU’s Bachelor of Human Rights is an exciting new course that will prepare you for a career in human rights and social justice.

You will graduate with the job-ready skills and knowledge to contribute to the development of policies and practices that are highly valued in the corporate, government and non-government sectors.

You can also combine the Bachelor of Human Rights with a Bachelor of Laws or Bachelor of Criminology and Criminal Justice to further expand your career prospects.

*Law and criminology units will be offered on the North Sydney Campus; most arts and philosophy units will be taught on the Strathfield Campus.

What you will study

You will gain an understanding of the fundamentals of human rights law and the legal institutional mechanisms, legal principles and legal decisions that provide the framework for all human rights dialogue and practice. You will undertake a specialised suite of units from legal studies, the social sciences and humanities, and philosophy – culminating in a final-year human rights clinic unit, where you will complete an industry placement in the human rights sector.

A deep understanding of human rights as a theory, its complicated history, and the tools required to make human rights legislation and advocacy meaningful is vital to successfully implement the fundamentals of both human rights legislation and the many varied declarations within Australia and around the world. Upon graduation, you will be able to critically evaluate the place of human rights in modern society.
