About data analytics

ACU student sitting at a shared desk with a laptop and headphones around his neck

Good data analysts have more than a knack for numbers. They have an excellent eye for detail, possess good computer skills, and can identify key trends and patterns from a sea of information. They play an important role in their organisations – collecting and analysing a wide range of data types to gain game-changing insight in areas such as business operations, customer behaviour or competitive landscapes. After using data to build computerised models and calculations, data analysts can make informed recommendations to management to help improve and optimise the business – potentially changing its fortunes in the process. In an increasingly digital world, good data analysts are instrumental to their organisations.

Be instrumental to success

A top-ranked career path in Australia,1 data science and analytics are in-demand in a big way. It’s become a core part of company boardrooms, helping to inform management strategies and decision-making. This has led to a growing need for employees with data analytics skills at all levels – yet the supply of data-savvy graduates is still relatively low. Choose data analytics and you’ll have a specialised technical skill that makes you employable across a wide range of industries, including finance, healthcare, marketing and IT. As a minor in your undergraduate business degree, data analytics complements your major and provides you with an extra-competitive edge upon graduation.
