Liesbeth Vandenput is a professor in the Bone Health and Fracture Research Program at the Mary MacKillop Institute for Health Research at Australian Catholic University (ACU). She is also affiliated with the Institute of Medicine at the University
of Gothenburg, Sweden. After receiving her PhD in experimental bone research in Leuven at the KU Leuven, Belgium she moved to Gothenburg, Sweden in 2005 to gain experience in osteoporosis epidemiology. She focused on the importance of serum sex
steroid levels in relation to bone traits and fracture risk in unique, well-characterized population-based cohorts. Other research topics included the genetics of bone and sex steroid levels using genome-wide association studies. Most recently, she
investigates the impact of the gut microbiota on intestinal and local sex steroid levels.
She has received substantial external funding from the Swedish Research Council. She is also a member of the FRAX research group (University of Sheffield), led by professor John Kanis. She has made a significant contribution to the bone research
field, with over 100 peer-reviewed publications and over 10,000 citations.
