Definition
A Major is 80 cp in prescribed units in one discipline or approved interdisciplinary area, normally including at least 10 cp at 100-level, at least 40 cp at 200-level and at least 20 cp from 300-level.
A Minor is 40 cp in prescribed units in one discipline or approved interdisciplinary area, normally including at least 10 cp at 100-level and at least 20 cp at 200- or 300-level.
Completion requirements
To qualify for the degree, a student must complete:
240 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings, consisting of:
- 160 cp from:
- 2 Arts Majors (Part A); OR
- 1 Arts Major (Part B) and 2 Arts Minors (Part C); OR
- 1 Arts Major (Part B) and 1 Arts Minor (Part D) and 40cp from the Rome Semester Program (Part E);
- 10 cp from Inquire units (Part F);
- 10 cp from Connect units (Part G);
- 10 cp from Create units (Part H);
- 20 cp from
- Electives units (Part I) OR
- 10 cp from the Arts Scholar Program units (Part J) and 10 cp from Elective units (Part K);
- 10 cp from Capstone units (Part L )
- 20 cp from Core Curriculum units (Part M)
Other requirements
A student may undertake units listed in the Schedule of Unit Offerings from any Bachelor of Arts discipline (subject to campus availability, unit limitations and provided that prerequisite requirements are met).
Students are required to follow the pattern of unit enrolment set out in the relevant Course Enrolment Guide, unless otherwise approved by the Course Coordinator. In all aspects of progress through the course, students will be advised by the Course Coordinator.
Exit points
Students who have met the requirements of the Diploma in Liberal Arts can exit with that award.
Progression requirements
Unless otherwise specified, students must complete a unit or units at an introductory level (100-level) in an approved sequence before undertaking advanced level units (200 or 300-level) in that sequence. Any additional prerequisites for individual units are shown in brackets after the unit in the Schedule of Unit Offerings.
A student may, with the approval of the Course Coordinator, undertake cross-institutional study in order to satisfy the requirements, in whole or in part, of:
(a) a Major or a Minor in a language other than English; and/or
(b) a Major in any discipline, where the student has completed a Minor in that discipline at this University
