Leading exercise and nutrition expert Professor John Hawley will join Manchester Metropolitan University as one of its two first ever Global Chairs.
Professor Hawley, director of ACU’s Mary MacKillop Institute for Health Research, was invited to join the university through its Global Chair scheme which recognises international excellence.
He is one of two Global Chairs to be appointed. They will both provide insights and mentorship, foster collaboration, enhance networks and raise the international profile of both universities.
Professor Hawley will visit Manchester next month for a series of public lectures, presentations, and meetings with leading researchers.
“I am excited to take up this opportunity and be able to highlight ACU’s strengths in health and exercise research internationally,” Professor Hawley said.
“I am looking forward to introducing MMIHR research to Manchester to kick off conversations and collaboration.”
ACU’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research and Enterprise Professor Abid Khan congratulated Professor Hawley on the appointment.
“Our strategic partnerships and ties with universities abroad provide a global lens to allow us to better understand the communities we seek to serve,” Professor Khan said.
“Our community extends to the connections we make and the partners who collaborate with us and like Manchester Met, we have positioned ourselves to become leaders in responding to priority areas with focused impact.”
Professor Khan said the opening of ACU’s new metabolic chamber on its Melbourne campus next month will reinforce the university’s position at the forefront of metabolic disease, exercise, and dietary research.
