ShareThe Institute of Child Protection Studies (ICPS) acknowledges the suffering and sorrow of so many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples following the result of Saturday's referendum. The ICPS team is bitterly disappointed by the outcome.
The Institute of Child Protection Studies (ICPS) believed in the opportunity to give formal recognition to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, and to give them a voice to begin a national process of justice, unity and inclusion. In spite of that lost opportunity, we must find a new way forward. Through our work here at ICPS, we will continue to listen to the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.
We pledge to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people, families, communities and organisations to shape their own future on their own terms, and we will continue to forge genuine partnerships on joint projects.
We encourage you to take time to read the Uluru Statement response from Indigenous Australians who supported the referendum. Now is a time for reflection as we wait to hear further thoughts from our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders about a pathway forward.
