ShareThe Director of Australian Catholic University’s Institute of Child Protection Studies, Professor Daryl Higgins, has examined a new Government website designed to provide a comprehensive picture of interpersonal violence across the country.
In an extensive article for The Conversation, Professor Higgins examined a series of charts on the new Australian Institute of Health and Welfare site outlining the prevalence of family, domestic, and sexual violence in Australia.
Professor Higgins’ detailed analysis of the data noted it did not extend to multi-type maltreatment, an area of research he led on the landmark Australian Child Maltreatment Study, or include children's exposure to physical punishment in the home.
But Professor Higgins said the data on the new website could be used to identify where support services were required and to drive vital primary prevention strategies.
