ACU stays strong in nursing and education world rankings

ACU continues to make its mark globally ranking 14th in the world for nursing in the 2022 Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, moving up four places with improved scores across all research citation metrics.

Education, ACU’s second highest subject in the Shanghai ranking, remains in the top 50 worldwide.

The university’s scores improved across all research citation metrics with marked increase in articles published in the top quartile of journals.

ACU retained its position in the top 150 for psychology and moved into the top 400 in clinical medicine and public health.

Also known as the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) Subject Rankings, the Shanghai ranking grades world universities in 54 subjects across natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, medical sciences, and social sciences.

ACU’s performance in the 2022 CWTS Leiden Rankingshowed further improvement from 2021. It is now ranked first in Australia and 44th in the world by proportion of outputs in the top 10 per cent.

ACU is 31st in the world for outputs in the top 5 per cent of publications, up from 47th in 2021.

Leiden ranks the scientific impact, collaboration, open access publishing, and gender diversity of 1176 institutions from 65 countries across five scientific fields.

It allows smaller universities to compare their research quality with larger universities, as it measures the proportion of high-quality research papers a university releases.

The Leiden ranking shows that, of the research papers ACU publishes, it is the leading Australian university by proportion of outputs in both the top five per cent and 10 per cent in the subject field of biomedical and health sciences.

In social sciences and humanities, ACU is now 19th in the world by proportion of papers in the top one per cent.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research and Enterprise Professor James McLaren said the university’s continued success in international research rankings is testament to its commitment to excellence.

“These results clearly demonstrate ACU’s continued strength in key research performance metrics of citation impact and high-quality publications across our core discipline expertise,” Professor McLaren said.
