Cam Buck, Bachelor Commerce/Bachelor of Law, Short-term study in Rome, Italy
The intensive programs at ACU Rome campus provides a great mixture of learning and site-seeing, which allowed me to pick up an elective during the semester break (Intellectual Property Law) and give me the opportunity to travel at the same time. Not only did I get familiarise myself with Rome through the included activities in the program, such as visits to the Colosseum, Vatican, the Australian Ambassador and the WFP, but also had plenty of time to sightsee with the friends I made throughout the course.
As the program’s duration was 2 weeks, I was able to travel either side of the unit, getting a taste for other European countries, including England, France, Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Poland, Belgium and the Czech Republic. This trip was honestly a holiday of a lifetime, one which I will never forget, and one which wouldn’t have been possible without the travel grants and scholarships that ACU offered. If you get the chance to do an intensive, or any study abroad through ACU, I highly recommend that you take that opportunity. It is not often that students are able to afford to travel without an ACU grant, let alone be able to immerse themselves with various cultures whilst learning at the same time.
For those worried about the workload and missing out on the chance to site-see during the 2-week intensive, it was honestly not that content heavy. Each weekday consisted of around a 4-hour class in the morning, which would be finished before lunch (which they provide), and you are free to travel around Rome for the remainder of the evening. Every chance to travel is a chance that should be taken, particularly those instances in which it may be partially funded.
I urge all students who wish to study abroad to apply for those positions, even if you think you won’t be accepted, apply anyway, as you never know what might happen.
