Understandings of culturally-based conceptions of writing motivation among Chinese students were advanced in this paper by Professor Clarence Ng at ILSTE and colleagues. The paper reports findings derived partly from an international writing motivation survey using a new instrument for assessing motives for writing. The findings highlight complex relationships between writing motives and writing self-efficacy and shed light on the multidimensionality of writing motivation.
