ACU joins the Defence Science Institute as a university partner

ACU has partnered with the Defence Science Institute, joining nine other Victorian and Tasmanian universities in its university stakeholder cohort, to deliver the best in defence science research.

Professor Shona Halson, deputy director of the Sports Performance, Recovery, Injury and New Technologies (SPRINT) Research Centre, will take on the role of DSI’s Liaison Manager at ACU.

She will communicate the latest opportunities from the defence sector and identify relevant capability within ACU’s research centres.

Internationally recognised in human performance and sports science research, Professor Halson said the partnership will see ACU contribute its expertise to the research and development capability DSI helps deliver to the defence and national security sector.  

“We are excited for this strategic partnership where we aim to be able to utilise our expertise in performance, recovery, injury and new technology to engage in real world impactful defence science research,” Professor Halson said.

DSI’s Industry Engagement Manager, Craig Butler, said ACU’s Mary Mackillop Institute for Health Research and the SPRINT research centre hold tremendous potential for defence.

“The centres use recognised and evolving research techniques, focusing on findings that directly translate into practical initiatives,” he said.

“The DSI team looks forward to this new partnership that brings with it the potential to expand Victoria’s dynamic defence science network.”
