Professor Vince Geiger awarded professorship
Professor Vince Geiger from ACU’s Institute for Learning Sciences and Teacher Education has been awarded a Giovanni Prodi Professorship at Wurzburg University in Germany.
Professor Geiger was selected for the highly prestigious award from a field of 50 international applicants. Professor Geiger is the first Australian and first mathematics educator to be offered this position. During the term of the professorship, he will work with German colleagues, including Professor Hans-Stefan Siller and Professor Hans-Georg Weiland, on research collaborations across topics such as the use of digital tools in teaching, learning and assessment, mathematical modelling, and mathematical literacy.
This role is in addition to Professor Geiger’s appointment to the Numeracy Expert Group for the second cycle of the Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC) – sponsored by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
Professor Geiger is one of six international experts who have been invited to provide advice on this program, which surveys adults’ proficiency in key information-processing skills – literacy, numeracy, and problem solving in technology-rich environments. The program aims to gather and analyse information and data about how adults use these proficiencies at home, at work and in the wider community.
