Study undergraduate philosophy

Indulge your curiosity and come to a deeper understanding of the world around you by studying our inclusive, open-minded and challenging philosophy program. Taught with passion and offering a world-class education, our program reflects ACU’s Catholic identity through our philosophy of religion stream.

The School of Philosophy offers undergraduate students a variety of ways to introduce the benefits of philosophical study into your degree. You can study a philosophy major sequence or a philosophy minor sequence within various degree programs.

You can take a philosophy major as part of the:

• Bachelor of Arts (including BA double degree programs with global studies, psychological science, commerce)
• Bachelor of Theology/Bachelor of Philosophy
• Bachelor of Theology (including the double degree program with global studies and laws)
• Bachelor of Philosophy/Bachelor of Laws
• Bachelor of Arts (Western Civilisation) (including the double degree with law)

You can take a philosophy minor or other smaller sequence of units as part of any of the above, as well as the:

• Bachelor of Human Rights (including the double degrees with criminology and criminal justice)
• Bachelor of Psychological Science

You can even study philosophy units as part of our Study in Rome program, spending time overseas as part of your course.

Our philosophy program features units across four streams which cover the entire range of study in the discipline today:

• ethics, social and political philosophy
• philosophy of religion
• history of philosophy, and
• metaphysics, logic and epistemology.

The philosophy major sequence is made up of eight units and offers introductory units that lead into focused study in a range of philosophical concepts and their applications. A major can prepare you for honours and graduate research in the discipline.
